Texas Veterans + Family Alliance

About the Program

In 2015, our state leaders and the Texas Legislature reaffirmed their commitment to our veterans and their families through Senate Bill 55. Championed by Sen. Jane Nelson, who authored the bill, SB 55 created a new and innovative grant program, Texas Veterans + Family Alliance (TV+FA), within the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for the purpose of supporting community mental health programs providing services and treatment to veterans and their families. It also directed HHSC to work with an administrator to assist, support, and advise on TV+FA and to help secure local, private, and in-kind funds to match the $20 million appropriated by the Texas Legislature.

HHSC named the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (MMHPI) as administrator for the grant program. MMHPI proudly served in this role in until 2017 at no cost to the state of Texas. We remain committed to supporting HHSC and to working with organizations that can contribute to support for the mental health needs of veterans and military families in their communities.
